Experience our Shimamaki cat skiing programs and get ready to ride untouched powder on the Karibayama mountain range near the Sea of Japan!

Our season is limited to just 10 weeks and 12 guests per trip. These two and four day trips depart at 15:30 on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from beginning of January through March (weather permitting). Like all cat skiing, the number or runs, amount of vertical and terrain skied will depend on the avalanche conditions and the  groups ability. Our record for the most vertical skied in a day was 13runs (6,500meters) but the average has been  between 2,800 – 5,000 meters, or 9,000 – 15,000 vertical feet of powder snow per day.

You’ll be staying in the sleepy, coastal village of Shimamaki, famous for it’s big mountains, trophy salmon fishing, and abundant seafood. Located two hours southwest of Niseko, Shimamaki is a cultural experience we believe makes this program about more than just skiing. Prices include meals, avalanche gear, and transportation to and from Niseko.

The House of Powder

The House of Powder CAT SKIING at Chisenupuri

Just 30-minutes outside of Niseko Village in the Onsen town of Rankoshi lies the historic ski area of Chisenupuri. “Chise” first began in 1977 when the town of Rankoshi built a modest lift, day lodge and small hotel near YukiChichibu Onsen. Surrounded by outstanding nature, hot springs and blessed with abundant powder snow, Chise quickly became a local favorite. Unfortunately, a shrinking customer base and an aged lift caused Rankoshi town to close its doors and removed the hotel in 2012.

For the 2016/2017 ski season the Chisenupuri ski area and historic warming hut will be open for cat skiing day trips. Our snow cats allow small groups up to 16 skiers and boarders to be shuttled to the top of the old ski runs giving you access to your own, Japanese powder experience and a guided ski resort for the day. Chisenupuri can be booked as individuals or a private group.

 No backcountry experience necessary.
